Remember This Truth About Beauty

As a journalist, I spent the last few weeks interviewing women who lost their hair and their breasts as they fought for their lives, battling the beast that attacks 1 in 8 women in America — breast cancer. 

We shed tears.

“I woke up healthy one day and went to bed terminally ill,” one woman said.

Personally, I’m in the throes of wedding planning, shopping for boho-chic decor and pinning vintage dresses, DIY tablescapes and rustic bar ideas to my rapidly expanding Pinterest board. I’m in bliss mode thinking of the blessings yet to come and my future, cheery and bright. So to sit with these battle-weary women, to see their scars and hear the distinct crack in their voices that signals a new storm of tears — it is the epitome of a wake-up call.
